Through the Lens of Photography
My journey as an artist began not with a brush, but with a camera. Photography has always been my way to capture the world’s quiet, fleeting moments.
I live by the Thames Estuary in the UK, where long walks along the shore, sunrises, and sunsets constantly inspire me. In 2020, during the Covid lockdowns, I sought a way to tune out the noise of the outside world. That’s when I picked up a brush, using my earlier photographs as the starting point for my paintings.
Landscape painting is at the heart of my work. Instead of vibrant, realistic colours, I favour soft, muted tones: greys, creams, pale turquoise, duck egg blue, sand, rust, and ochre – colours that reflect earth, water, and sky in a calm, contemplative way. Over the years, my work has gradually taken on a more abstract direction, transforming memories and moments into evocative, atmospheric art.
